About this trip
Algoma sits on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan in Kewaunee County, and the water off the harbor mouth is some of the most consistent salmon water on the lake. We fish it the way it asks to be fished: a full spread of downriggers, dipsy divers and planer boards worked across sixty to two hundred feet, moving until we find the temperature break the fish are holding on.
Target species are Chinook — king — salmon, coho, steelhead, brown trout and lake trout. What comes over the rail depends on the month. Browns and steelhead push shallow early. Kings stack up through midsummer and turn mean in July and August. By September the fish are staging for the run and fighting like it.
The trip
We leave the harbor before dawn. That is not a marketing flourish — the first two hours of light are the best two hours of the day, and boats that leave at eight are fishing the leftovers. Expect to be on the water while it is still dark and back at the dock by late morning on a half day.
Every fish is yours. We clean and bag your catch at the dock.
Who this is for
Most of our charter groups are four to six anglers booking a multi-day trip and staying in Algoma or Kewaunee. Experience is not required and it is not an advantage — trolling is a boat-run technique, and the mate will put a rod in your hands when a rigger pops. If you have never held a salmon rod before, you will be fine.

What to bring
- Wisconsin fishing license and Great Lakes trout stamp. Not included, and required. Buy online from the Wisconsin DNR before you arrive.
- Layers. It is thirty degrees colder six miles out than it is in the parking lot, in July.
- Rain shell and non-marking soled shoes
- Food and drinks for the trip
- A cooler in your vehicle for the drive home
